The perpetual music thread

A random Sting and Shaggy jam session put a smile on my face today:

There is a remix on spotify that is slightly better lol.

The first time I listened to it (the coconut song) was while coming out of a really intense bass practice session so I ended up giving the song a bassline and couple of licks reflexively. It actually turned out slightly better that way. It really lacks some oomph

Yeah I liked that too. Been watching a lot of NPR tiny desk concerts during lockdown

Haha, this has the minimal possible melody that makes the eeriness bearable and interesting.

This is what my actualism looks like today

https://youtu.be/Sul6nqGgjiE

A fav of mine with some actualist compatible lines jeje from Uruguayan legends Cuarteto de Nos

https://youtu.be/IxI9r9rHtaI

Half decent English translation here: El Cuarteto de Nos - Así Soy Yo lyrics + English translation

Quizá la más compatible sea “Ya no sé qué hacer conmigo” después de haberlo intentado todo: ¡AF ofrece una propuesta!

Esoooo hermano :grinning: jaja sería una publicidad bárbara para la AFT

Perhaps (though unlikely) there’s something lost in translation, but this song doesn’t appear to be compatible with actualism at all!

Rather it reads as someone who has decided to withdraw from the world so as not to get hurt in the first place. And they don’t themselves place any value on feeling good in the first place (“Joy and grief are the same for me”). Further they don’t care about anything either (“And so I give a shit 'bout nothing”).

I would equate it with the ascetic or hermetic or equanimous spiritual paths - withdrawing from the world, not getting involved, not reacting to anything, and being equanimous in all circumstances, good or bad.

While actualism is about actively enjoying and appreciating being alive, caring about one’s fellow human beings, wanting to do something to end the sorrow and misery that epitomizes the human condition. Further it is an “in the marketplace” method, where the more actively you are involved with life, the easier and more effective it is. Richard has remarked, for example, that actualism is easier with a partner and even easier with kids, for example, and I at least have confirmed it is indeed easier with a partner.

I would take this opportunity to locate the source of this blasé apathy, in yourself, and do whatever it takes to wake up from it, recognize you are here living this life, you only have this one life to live, and do you really wanna squander it away with not caring about anything? Engage with life!! It is well worth it.

Haha yeah it was kinda a dumb post, you’re spot on. It’s a heaps bitter song and probably how I’m feeling atm. I feel like Robin in that Batman meme haha. Miguel’s right Ya no se Que hacer conmigo is more in tune, talks of trying this that and everything to no avail, time to turn around 180 degrees.

But yeah somethings not right with me atm. Having trouble feeling good. Having trouble seeing my bitterness as silly. Just gotta keep at it I guess…

I really enjoy the quasi-religion this band has built around itself. Cool music, visuals and interesting lyrics. They have a few older tunes that are just awesome fun to watch.
