Hi Vineeto,
Just getting around to responding to this, while my experience currently is quite close to the PCE territory so to speak!
I use ‘immediacy’ in the PCE context referring to how Richard used it in those 3 quotes you posted above.
From my public log:
- 2008-2009 ‘Microsoft PCE’: “I was able to work on the task most effectively, and while enjoying it thoroughly, with a complete 360 degrees awareness of it as it was happening (and there was a total immediacy, unlike the traditional modality of ‘me’ being ‘up there somewhere’ lost in some semi-fancy despite being physically located here).”
- Dec 5, 2021 PCE: “Ear drums are revelling and reverberating with a concomitant (unintended) act of ‘arriving here’ - notably (idiosyncratic to me) in the visual field (that familiar ever-present sense of “me” being present in between the eyes has now dissolved, enough to be arriving ‘here’ where this living room is silently located). All of “my” (tacit, ‘normal’) problems took a backseat, and I am … just here. The near-constant (considered-to-be-normal) agitation of ‘me’ has given way to uncovering the ever-present (but hitherto hidden-to-consciousness) stillness of this yellow-lit room. I could be like this forever.”
- Even though I didn’t use the word “immediacy” here, both auditory (the reverberation was literally on the ear drums which is as ‘close’ as it can get) and visual perception evoked the same. Immediacy naturally includes an utter stillness.
- Jan 5, 2026 PCE: "I remarked to myself, “Whoa, this looks like it is in 4k” … referring to the indubitably immediate visual perception of the entire living room being experienced in 3d and in “higher resolution”. Crisp, and everything’s here, with no ‘outside’ to it, and self-sufficient "
In all three instances, I use the word in the same meaning — referring to after having “arrived here” (from being a “me” lost in psychic spacetime, ‘distant’ to everything else) where there is increased sensate clarity as well as stillness (no ‘movement’). Everything is happening here; they are ‘close’ (e.g:; “Ear drums are revelling and reverberating”) in this moment, which is still, is all there is — there are no ‘boundaries’ to peek into an ‘outside’.
I am already starting to have an inkling of how this takes the form of ‘intimacy’ with fellow human beings, and it indeed seems quite delicious, but I’ll refraim from writing about it until I have sufficient experience.
