Hold on this is actually a thing? (I am Richards grandson)

Nice to meet you Torren, have you ever read anything he wrote? I doubt anyone will try to actively convert/evangelize if you arenā€™t interested, but if you are Iā€™m sure you would get some interesting conversation. Regarding your quick question - he does mention his kids a number of times. A few of the main points regarding his kids that stuck with me from his writings:

  1. Having and raising children was an important learning experience and taught him alot about the human condition
  2. He saw the role of a parent to be primarily preparing children for adult life until they can fend for themselves
  3. He values seeing family members (whether parents siblings or children) as fellow human beings rather than relating to them in the natural hierarchy imposed by normal family structures.

Here are a couple pages where he talks about his kids: Selected Correspondence: Nurture
Selected Correspondence: Children & Parenting
Richard's Personal Web Page (this one is general autobiography with a bit about his family)

Regarding the notion of ā€˜cultā€™ā€¦ well it is definitely a ā€œfringe movementā€ there arenā€™t many people involved overall, but still a decent number. It is also a very dedicated group, but Iā€™d say they are primarily dedicated to happiness and harmlessness in their own life, rather than being dedicated to growing the mission or anything like that. Iā€™d definitely argue it isnā€™t a cult in that no one has ever asked anything from me, I donā€™t carry out any ritual devotion to your grandad etc. I have probably spent around 100$ on various DVD conversations and a copy of his book though over the last 10 years.

Hello My name is Torren Curtis 16 year grandson of what Iā€™m guessing is your prophet Richard on my mothers side. Before any of you ask no I myself am not ā€œfreeā€ or particularly enlightened neither are any of his children (quick question did he ever acknowledge his kids in his writings?) even though i lived close to Richard i only met him once when i was very young. He lived on a broken down houseboat on a river. my mum and him werenā€™t very close in fact we were the first people that got the call the he was in intensive care we were in cairns on holiday standing in a line at woolworths and my mum just said ā€œRichard is in intensive careā€ completely nonchalantly. up until june in fact I had zero idea this wholeā€¦ Cult?..Way of life? his family calls it a cult anyway. Iā€™m kind of amazed that this has spawned an active community. anyway thats my spiel bye bye!

Hi Torren,
I remember your visit about 10 years ago when you came with your brother and mother. We went to a beach and then to the houseboat for a chat.
I find it cute that Richardā€™s discovery about feeling good for the rest of oneā€™s life is dismissed as a cult while children are taught that life is serious and earnest, full of obligations and duties and what not.
You are not allowed to feel good every moment of your life, oh no!

One day you might want to make up your own mind what you want from life and not believe everything you are told and taught but find out some facts for yourself.
Cheers Vineeto
