The Actual Freedom Fund[1] is looking to host an actualism gathering this year!
The idea is to have an in-person meeting, for the purposes of having fun, meeting fellow actualists, exchanging valuable notes and insights, and generally fostering a jovial atmosphere.
The Fund is willing and able to cover lodging and food costs. Participants will be asked to cover their own travel costs, unless they would otherwise be unable to participate in which case we can assist on a case-by-case basis.
We don’t have any specific time or location yet, but some ideas that have been aired so far are doing it in southern Portugal, somewhere in Europe in general, or Australia – perhaps the western hemisphere could work as well. Timeline could be anytime in the year, with probably at least a few months out to allow for organization, but we discussed e.g. September in southern Portugal.
Basically right now we wanna gather interest of who would want to come at all, and when and where they’d be able to make it if they want to come. Then we can pick a most suitable location for the maximal ease and benefit of all involved.
We plan to do these more regularly going forward, so, if you miss the first one, there will be further opportunities down the line.
Cheers,
Claudiu

I am financially able to travel to wherever is collectively decided to be a good meeting place. Whatever help with lodging and food would be appreciated, but not necessary in my case.
I am all for a trip to Europe, my main priority would be the maximum number of actually free people simultaneously available and present for such a meeting.
I happily defer to whatever suits those actually free amongst us deciding, if indeed they decide to be available.
I shall try and be there!
Wherever this get-together ends up happening!
The proposition Claudiu made is the result of a discussion we recently had with the other Directors of the Actual Freedom Fund, as such it was always part of the plan.
Regarding other actually free people: if it happens in Ballina, I’m sure we’d get to enjoy Vineeto’s wonderful presence! And a visit by others living in Australia would always be a possibility, although nothing has been discussed.
If it happens in Europe, or elsewhere, I might end up being the only one; but eh I’ll do my best - unless one of you becomes actually free in the meantime eh
I am physically unable to make it but I hope to somehow participate online.
I am reminded of what Richard said when I told him I couldn’t make the meet-up in Australia: He said that in the meantime I could have fun and I intend to do that.
Looking forward to the meet-up w\o being there physically.
Interested. Much prefer Europe because of the travel distance but I’ll adapt.
(Also, and I think I have mentioned this before, I might have enough bonus points and vouchers to be able to help someone else fly to the meetup, but I’ll have to check with the airline.)
For this year I will not be very mobile so would only be able to really make it if it’s in Southern Portugal – which incidentally is a nice spot to have such a thing . But am happy to have it elsewhere if that works out best.
That being said, it looks like a lot of people would prefer Europe as well travel-wise.
What I propose is that we have this first gathering in Southern Portugal, and we can leave Ballina for a future gathering.
In terms of time of year, summer is easiest for those with school-age kids, but also is the busiest time of year (to the point of overcrowding), and hottest temperature-wise (to the point of being a little bit unpleasant, but not superlatively so). I always recommend people visit in spring or fall, both crowd-wise and weather-wise.
In terms of housing, there are many holiday villa rentals here for quite reasonable rates… for example, this 3-bedroom villa (2 single beds in one and a large double bed in each of the other 2) is currently going for €220/night:
The Fund could rent out one or two of these (depending on what we need) in close proximity and it should be quite alright.
Thoughts on this as the plan? The next step I think would be for everyone to fill in preferred dates, and specifically dates they cannot make it, then we can figure out what the dates would be …
Also to be sure, other possibilities still exist, such as: Ballina this year, Portugal later.. or both this year.. etc. It depends also on Geoffrey & Vineeto of course. Just to highlight it’s not fixed in stone yet, what the plans are, ‘twas but a suggestion (indeed there’s much interest for both Europe & Ballina in the thread).
I’ll confer with Geoffrey and Vineeto to see their thoughts and availability — to move it forward for now, if anyone has any blocking dates then let me know
another useful info would be how long would everyone want to do it for? Based on past trips, we should all aim to arrive on the same day — if some want to stay longer than others we could have different departure dates
The football world cup is this summer as well, so may be very busy for airports. Start of September could be nice, I guess.
I potentially could do Ballina (pending visa), if that means having Vineeto and Geoffrey, but overall prefer Europe (could Vineeto travel or impossible?)
