Are Insects Conscious?

Surprisingly, a good part of articles that deal with consciousness or allude to it do not establish the definition they are dealing with. At least this article does, regardless of whether it is satisfactory or not:

If any creature has a sense of what it’s like to be that creature, Nagel’s argument goes on, it’s conscious.

It’s a sense of yourself in the world.

Although, as is also often the case, the article later implicitly changes the definition by referring to the capacity or not to feel pain/suffering (one of the legal definitions of sentient beings, but which is not the same as consciousness -unless one explicitly equates them-).
