Hi Leila,
This is the current admin list: https://discuss.actualism.online/g/admins .
Thinking about it, I don’t see a reason an admin should ever need to unpromptedly read someone else’s personal messages. If there is an issue then someone could bring an admin to look at a particular thread they’re in, and then the admin could look at it, but it seems like it’s not needed to be able to browse through someone’s messages list.
So, to mitigate the issue, I updated the theme to hide the ‘Messages’ button of other users, even if logged in as an admin… before:
after:
Note that from a technical perspective, the admin can still read the messages, if they know how to manually query the website, or if they have access to the server or backups… but this should fully eliminate any accidental reading of it, while if someone provides a URL to an admin then the admin could still look if some moderation or cause of action is needed (eg if there is some genuine safety or legal concern).
Basically the idea is that the users have to trust the admins to not snoop around for no reason, while also understanding they do have the ability to judiciously use the admin capabilities. Hopefully the removal of the button will go some way towards this.
Cheers,
Claudiu
