late July 1980[1][2]
Richard experiences a 4 hr PCE.[3] It morphs into an ASC[4] [5] wherein a Divine Order of Things is revealed to him.[6] He temporarily becomes Divine Compassion and Love Agape before returning to normal.[7] His goal is thereupon established: bring Love Agape and Divine Compassion to a suffering humankind.[8] He views himself as the Savior.[9]
1 January 1981
After resolving to pursue what was revealed in the perfection of his PCE, Richard commences on what he refers to as the wide and wondrous path, imitating what was experienced by maximizing the felicitous/innocuous feelings while at the same time minimizing the malicious/sorrowful feelings and their antidotal pacifiers of love/compassion.[10] (There are conflicting reports as to whether he stepped immediately into the “process,”[11][12][13] [14] thus experiencing the penultimate out-from-control virtual freedom from the get-go, or whether he gradually worked his way up to that point over the course of several weeks [15] or months.)[16][17]
late January/ early February 1981
Approximately three weeks after setting out on the path, he gets rid of anger for good in the midst of his wife throwing a vicious tantrum.[18][19] One report indicates that he enters into an “ad hoc” virtual freedom (whatever that is): “The first thing ‘I’ did, in January 1981, was to put an end to anger . . . then ‘I’ was freed enough to live in an ad hoc virtual freedom. It took ‘me’ about three weeks.” He coins the term “pure intent” at about this time.[20] He’s going around telling everyone that he’s found the secret to life.[21]
March 1981
Richard enters the penultimate, full blown out-from-control virtual freedom (putting aside reports of an earlier initiation[11:1][12:1][13:1] [14:1][15:1]). The penultimate virtual freedom is a perpetual excellence experience (EE)[22] nearly indistinguishable from a PCE.[23]But this only lasts for one month.[24][25]
April 1981
Major turning point. A crucial event occurs. He goes “cataleptic.”[26][27] (In some places he writes “catatonic.”[28][29]) He’s rushed to hospital. While there, he emerges from the condition radiating bliss.[30][31] Richard surrenders right there and then to “love and oneness.”[32] At this time, he enters into an ongoing and permanent state of human love and bliss.[33] Rather than being minimized, love and compassion at this point are maxed, along with spiritual feelings of ecstacy, rapture, euphoria, bliss, and so on[34]. He proceeds to travel in this new direction until the death of his ego 5 months later in September 1981.[35]
Whether or not Richard was virtually free in those first three months of '81, or whether the type of virtual freedom he experienced was of the ad hoc or ongoing variety, it is hard to say. Nevertheless, commencing on the 1st of January '81, it is safe to say he was a felicitous and innocuous identity. And he remained so, by his account, for maybe three or four months, until April '81 when Divinity blinded him to the third alternative he had been pursuing. He emerged from that cataplexy in an extraordinarily powerful state of love and compassion. He could not have been in a virtual freedom/ongoing EE from that point on (given the current definitions of that state.) Pure intent would not have been operative. Divinity had done its work on him[36], and was, from there on out, the acting agent dictating the direction of that identity.

(2017) [Dona]: for clarification, Richard was out-from-control virtually free, which is a shift, a “different way of being”. He said he only had one instance of “slipping back to normal”, which only lasted a few minutes, and he didn’t do anything to get back to being out-from-control. It seems from your question you might be referring to “in control” virtual freedom, where someone is feeling good at this moment, and each moment again for the rest of their lives. Richard skipped right over this, and right into “out from control” virtual freedom.
Alan: Richard lived the out-from-control virtual freedom for about 9 months before losing his ego and becoming enlightened for 11 years. It is not necessary to become out-from-control before becoming actually free (see Dona’s reply below).

RESPONDENT: What actually happened in the beginning?
RICHARD: What happened for the identity inhabiting this flesh and blood body on the first of January 1981 (the day ‘he’ first put the method ‘he’ devised into practice) was so amazing for ‘him’ that ‘he’ said to ‘his’ then wife that ‘he’ had discovered the secret to life … ‘he’ would go on to say it was so easy to feel happy and harmless for 23 hours 59 minutes of the day (an arbitrary figure) that ‘he’ wondered why it had never been done before.
RESPONDENT: What happened in you when you asked this question?
RICHARD: What happened for the identity inhabiting this flesh and blood body was that ‘he’ mainly felt happy and harmless irregardless of the situation and circumstance … the 00 hours 01 minute of the day (an arbitrary figure) that ‘he’ did not never detracted from what has nowadays become known as a virtual freedom and was often quite easily rectified.

[Richard]: ‘The first time such catalepsy occurred my then-wife panicked and called an ambulance to take me to an intensive care unit at the nearest hospital; after being examined by the resident doctor for all vital signs then all the whilst that state persisted a duty nurse would test for consciousness (holding open eyelids and shining an intense light for signs of pupil contraction, pinching an earlobe as tightly as possible for any sign of sensation, and so on) every 15 minutes to no avail. (Upon eventually coming out of that state so much bliss was radiating, spilling over into the ICU…)’.
Which event (including unconsciousness non-event), to the best of my understanding, happened at the very beginning of the on-going state that you lived day and night for 11 years, and was the first time you had experienced going beyond name-and-form. Is this correct?
RICHARD: To answer your specific questions: as the first-time event occurred in April, 1981, it was five months prior to the start of the eleven year period of spiritual enlightenment/ mystical awakenment; it was the turning-point, as far as PCE’s and ASC’s were concerned.
